Reversed phase behaviour of high molecular mass polystyrenes in ethyl acetate solvent mixtures

Popis: The reversed phase behaviour of high molecular mass polystyrenes was investigated on C18 bonded phase columns with ethyl acetate-methanol and ethyl acetateacetonitrile mobile phases. The results are compared with the corresponding dichloromethane mobile phases. The ethyl acetate-methanol mobile phase showed anomalous elution behaviour, similar to other previously investigated solvent combinations with methanol. The ethyl acetate-acetonitrile mobile phase showed no anomalous behaviour, increased retention and, elution over a wider composition range compared with the dichloromethane-acetonitrile system. However, resolution between adjacent molecular masses was considerably worse.
