This article presents result of accelerated test for determination of decorative and protective properties of five paint coatings made by Institute of Tropical Durability (ITP)/ Vietnam - Russia Tropical Centre. They are: VL-02.VN, XC-567.VN, EP-255.VN, EP-567.VN, EP-730.VN. Herewith, VL-02.VN is a primer, XC-567.VN is used for temporary protection purpose, while EP-255.VN, EP-567.VN, EP-730.VN are protective paints. These paints are intended to be used in the aviation industry. The accelerated test was lasting in 20 cycles, each cycle is equal to 24 hours. This test has been conducted in accordance with 14th method of GOST 9.401 standard, which simulates the operating conditions of paints in naturally ventilation warehouses in tropical region. The protective and decorative properties of tested paints have been assessed after 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 20 test cycles according to both GOST 9.407 and TCVN-8785 standards. The test result shows that, the total protective rating of all the coatings (except EP-567.VN paint) is equal to 1.00, that met the requirement of GOST 9.401 standard (required rating is 1.00). So these paints are suitable for using in tropical climatic conditions. In terms of decorative property, paints EP-255.VN and EP-730.VN have a rating of 0.93, that is higher than the required rating (0.9) in relation to GOST 9.401. Paint EP-567.VN had some surface blistering defects that occurred after the 1st test cycle. However, it has been reprepared and re-tested and these defects have not appeared. |
