Radiotherapy plays an important role in cancer treatment and has some challenges, such as tumor tissue radioresistance and damage of healthy cells. Radiosensitizers are intended to increase the susceptibility of cancer cells to ionizing radiation and enhance the effectiveness of radiotherapy. Cerium oxide nanoparticles (CONPs) exhibit the properties of radiosensitizers and radioprotectors. The CONPs were found to increase the radiosensitivity of tumor Hela cells and simultaneously protect healthy cells from oxidative stress. The results show the CONPs exhibit enzyme-like properties of ROS inhibition. The inhibition activity was found to depend on the medium pH. |
