Popis: In this article highlights of the isobutene research carried out at the University of Akron (1980), TU Munich (1981–1985), University of Mainz (1985–1986), University of Bayreuth (1986–1992) and TU Munich (1992–present) will be reviewed. In chronological order work related to the synthesis of three-arm star telechelics, basic studies about the initiation step of "classical" binifer systems, the reversibility of the termination, recycling of the co-catalyst, strategies for the synthesis of graft and block co-polymers, the discovery of the selfcondensation and finally a new type of initiator will be described.
