Popis: Mainly nonlinear additional light attachments, named Nonlinear Energy Sink (NES), are widely studied for vibration mitigation of structures [1, 2]. Theoretical, numerical studies and finally preparation of design tools for a NES with cubic nonlinearity dedicated to mitigation of horizontal vibrations of a bridge cable have been studied already by the authors, and its efficiency demonstrated experimentally [3]. Nevertheless this cubic nonlinear absorber was unable to control vertical vibration of the cable because of gravity effects. The present study aims at controlling the vertical vibration of the same bridge cable under gravity effects using a different type of nonlinearity for the NES.
