Optimal handling and delivery of feed to the fish on the farm is of major importance, due to the fact the feed represent the single most important economic factor in fish farming.This chapter gives and overview of different feeding systems for formulated feed, included necessary inputs to operate such systems. Feeding concepts, as restricted or ad libitum feeding are also briefly described as this is important for the choose of feeding system. Automatic feeding systems can be divided in systems that require input of external power and systems that can be operated without external power, and in systems with pure control and with control and feedback. New trends including highly computerized feeding, remotely operated feeding, and automatic refilling of feed siloes on sea cage farms are also described. |
