Popis: | This paper examines the transmission spectra of single-wall carbon nanotubes over a wide range of energies of 0.015–5 eV. Up to seven resolved optical transitions, several of them unobserved in earlier work, are seen in the range, 0.5–4 eV at room temperature. New fine optical structures appear at E=2.75 and 2.91 eV as the sample temperature is reduced. The spectrum exhibits Drude-like behavior in the low-energy infrared region. The absorption peaks are attributable to electronic transitions between density-of-state peaks of either metallic or semiconducting nanotubes. The high sensitivity of the present work allows researchers to resolve weak optical structures in carbon nanotubes. |
