Popis: The transfer coefficients for oxygen from air to water and dilute salt solutions and from air to sodium sulphide solutions catalyzed by copper ion have been determined in an unbaffled stirred vessel. Up to the level of agitation at which the vortex broke the surface there is no apparent simple relation between these coefficients. Scale up on the basis of sulphite oxidation rates is therefore likely to be successful only under conditions of similar geometry and Reynold's number. Apparent activation energies of 1.2 and 10.6 kcal./g.mole were obtained for the transfer of oxygen to water and M/20 sodium sulphite solution respectively.
