Communities around the new 18 000 acre Dallas/Fort Worth Regional Airport are trying to plan ahead for the impact of the new airport facility. An “Airport Zoning Ordinance” was developed that included the control of land use by noise sensitivity, as well as the normal height restrictions. The types of land use permitted in areas exposed to aircraft noise are increased when a “soundproofing addendum” to the building code is utilized. The building code is a “material‐oriented” code to assist the small builder. The Zoning Ordinance also contains performance specifications which can be used in lieu of the material specifications. If an architect elects to use different materials, he must prove to the city building inspector that the building was designed to meet the required performance by a person competent in the practice of architectural noise control. |
