This paper presents the integration of VoIP (Voice over IP) in healthcare services through a specific proof-of concept telemedicine application. The proposed concept involves using certain procedures and resources for the acquisition and centralization of the medical data collected from monitored patients. With the solution presented in this article, the possibilities for remote monitoring of patients are extended through a custom entity that we called “smarthub”. By utilizing VoIP, new services and functions can be integrated into existing voice networks for more effective patient long distance communication and medical assistance. In order to achieve these purposes, an application was developed according to four major criteria: minimal cost, simple and intuitive interaction with the user, enhanced mobility and possibility to be integrated with other services and systems. |
