Popis: Racial and ethnic disparities in diagnosis, quality of care, and service utilization for children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) have been widely documented (e.g., Broder-Fingert, Shui, Pulcini, Kurowski, & Perrin, 2013; Magaña, Parish, & Son, 2015). Recent studies suggest ASD-related family stigma may contribute to these disparities (e.g., Rivera-Figueroa, Marfo, Eigsti, in press; Singh & Bunyak, 2019). To date, research in ASD-stigma in the United States (USA) has included mostly White parents of children with ASD, which has limited the ability to compare families from different racial/ethnic backgrounds or sociocultural factors that may contribute to within group differences. Research with non-White communities is mostly qualitative and based on small samples. These methodological limitations have prevented an understanding of how the experience of ASD-related stigma might vary across race/ethnic groups in the USA. Using a large, diverse sample of families across the United States, this study aims to quantify levels of family stigma among racial and ethnic minority parents of children with ASD and assess its impact on health care use. In addition, this study seeks to identify potential explanatory variables that may account for racial/ethnic group differences in ASD stigma, with a focus on sociocultural/sociodemographic and ASD-related factors.
