Colpocytological Findings in Teenagers of Northern Israel (Western Galilee)

Popis:	Between 1972 and 1985, 7,000 women were examined at the colposcopic clinic of the Nahariya Government and Regional Hospital of the Western Galilee. Of these, 43% were referred for various symptoms associated with cervical pathology and 57% for other reasons, prophylactically. A total of 152 women with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) lesions (2.17) were found in this population. When dividing these women into age groups, the highest rate of CIN lesions was found in the younger age groups: 15–20 years = 2.9%; 21–30 years = 3.0%. A further subdivision, according to ethnic groups and country of origin showed the rate of CIN in the Israeli-born Jewesses to be double the rate of CIN in European/American-born and Asia/Africa-born Jewesses (3.8%, 1.8%, and 1.6%, respectively). Z = 3.81; P < 0.001; Z = 3.82; P < 0.001. Among 411 teenage girls examined, 12 CIN lesions were found in the group of 326 Jewish young girls, whereas none was found in 85 non-Jewish girls. Z = 1.75, P < 0.04.
