Optimal Positioning of Sensors and Actuators Using Closed-Loop Norms

Popis: This paper discusses the optimization process whereby the "best" positions for sensors and actuators are obtained for observing and controlling a vibrating, continuous structure. Currently used cost functions involving observability/controllability grammians are reviewed- A procedure making use of the H2 optimal controller design procedure and a cost function involving the 2-norm of the closed-loop system is presented. A pinned-pinned beam is used as an example to demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach.
