Popis: This chapter delves deeper into the qualitative side of policy success across the fifteen country cases; looking at the past experiences with policy implementation for what has happened and why. A closer look is first taken at the inclusive policy empowerment hypothesis and the near-absence of gender transformative outcomes across the fifteen countries. Next, the chapter explores four major features of the route to strategic adaptation followed at some level in all fifteen countries. In the conclusion for not only this chapter but for the book as a whole, the larger lessons learned from these past experiences of tackling gender equality in the last male bastion of power and the implications for the pursuit of the “elusive recipe” for successful gender equality policy are presented. The book ends with a look toward the future in terms of the road that lies ahead for policy actors and scholars alike through proposing policy recommendations that might tip the scales away from strategic adaptation toward meaningful transformation and an agenda for future research on gender equality policy in action.
