Popis: Cardio-oncology is a new and burgeoning field in cardiology focused on the cardiovascular (CV) health of patients with cancer. An increase in cases of cancer is projected across all age-groups and sexes in coming decades. Fortunately, as a result of earlier detection and better cancer treatments, the average overall 5-year survival for all invasive cancers has significantly improved in recent years. These factors contribute to a growing population of cancer survivors, which currently exceeds 15 million survivors in the United States alone. CV disease is now recognized as a major cause of morbidity and mortality among cancer survivors, and indeed competes with cancer as a leading cause of death in this population. CV care of patients before, during, and after cancer treatment presents unique challenges that will be explored in this section.
