Finite Element Analysis of a High Frequency Inductor for a Galvanically Isolated PV Inverter

An existing high frequency inductor used by a commercial developer of PV inverters has been analyzed by the use of electromagnetic finite element models. A commercial software package has been applied for the simulations. The total core loss including both eddy current and hysteresis losses is calculated by the use of the models. Hot-spot areas in the high frequency inductor are identified. Fringing fields are discussed.
