IN VITRO PROLIFERATION AND RHIZOGENESIS OF TRANSGENIC STRAWBERRY CARRYING MAIZE IAA-GLUCOSE SYNTHETASE GENE (IAGLU)

Popis: In vitro proliferation and rooting ability of ten transgenic strawberry clones (Fragaria x ananassa) carrying IAA-glucose synthase gene (iaglu) was compared with two controls: non-transformed 'Kaster' shoots obtained via regeneration from leaf explants and transgenic 'Kaster' clones containing gus reporter gene. There were no significant differences in shoot proliferation rate and root development of both controls, which proves that β-glucuronidase has no significant effect on plant development. Some of the iaglu-transformed clones had higher proliferation rate and formed more roots than both controls. Root length, fresh weight of roots and content of dry weight in roots were variable - of ten iaglu-carrying clones tested, three had significantly shorter and three had longer roots than control plantlets. The content of dry weight was significantly higher in roots of five iaglu-containing clones and lower in one clone in comparison to the controls.
