Popis: This paper presents a collaborative learning system to support the learning experience of children in museums. The proposed system uses the Kinect Sensor for human sensing tasks required for delivering an interactive learning experience. The study recognizes that museums are an important source of scientific knowledge as they facilitate experiential and conversational learning. However, the main learning method in museums is passive—observing exhibits and reading explanations on text panels. Thus, few opportunities exist for children to discuss the experience and engage in conversations, thereby limiting the learning experience for children. Therefore, we developed a Kinect sensor based collaborative immersive learning support system for a museum that enables children to learn through body movements and conversation. In addition, we developed interactive content that can be manipulated by children using body movements. In this manuscript, we describe the outline of the system under development. In addition, we demonstrate using experiments that the Kinect sensor can be applied to accurately recognize the body movement of multiple users; this can be regarded as the first step towards realizing a cooperative learning support system for museums.
