Popis: | The phosphate recovery process is simulated to explore the potential of phosphate recovery from model solutions and from a sludge mixture in the regional sewage treatment plants. Layered Mg–Al double hydroxides (LDH) obtained through a solid-phase synthesis according to a proprietary process are used as sorbents. Experimental results on $${\text{RO}}_{4}^{{3 - }}$$ ion sorption on Mg–Al LDH can be described using a pseudo-first order kinetic model. The process of phosphate ion sorption by hydroxide form of Mg–Al LDH occurs in a mixed-diffusion mode. The sorption takes place not only on the outer surface of the particles of the material but also on the internal surface due to porosity. The sorption capacity for the hydroxide form is about 49 mg P/g, which is consistent with the average level of phosphorus recovery from wastewater achieved in synthesized analogs. The use of the oxide form obtained through calcining material at 600°C increases the efficiency of the process to dephosphotate municipal effluents. |
