Testing Electric Utility Smart Meters with High Harmonic Current Waveforms

Popis: This paper describes the results from testing the accuracy of electric utility smart meters. The results compare the smart meter measurements of voltage and current waveforms of a fundamental 60 Hz frequency with energy usage that contains current signals with narrow spikes. The Fourier component analysis of the current spikes requires high harmonic frequency analysis. A separate, precision power analyzer was calibrated as the reference. The worst-case error of about 3% was measured for three similar model meters out of twelve meters, where the uncertainty was about 0.1%.
