O2(a 1Δg) absorption bands in the vacuum ultraviolet

Popis: The absorption spectrum of metastable O2, excited by a microwave discharge, has been photographed in second order of the helium continuum with a 6.65 m vacuum spectrograph. The band progression in the 835–900 A region has been investigated further. From the rotational analysis of the well resolved bands, this progression was determined to belong to the transition, 1Φu–a1Δg. The vibrational quantum numbers were assigned by an isotope shift analysis with respect to 18O2. The molecular constants obtained for the 1Φu state were ωe = 1071±4 cm−1, xωe = 8.3±0.8 cm−1, Be = 1.116±0.008 cm−1, and αe = 0.014±0.005 cm−1.
