Popis: | The new railway bridge over the Ebro river in Spain that carries the high-speed line from Madrid through Zaragoza to the French border is described. The 546 m total span is divided into two areas: a 162 m approach span and the 384 m span over the river. The Vierendeel girder has a total depth of 9.15 m and a trapezoidal cross-section. The approach span has the same bottom slab as the main span. The construction process involved incremental launching from both abutments. The box girder is prestressed both longitudinally and transversely. The bridge has 12 trapezoidal piers. The bridge is characterized by circular voids in the walls and an intermediate structural behaviour between that of an open U-shaped cross section and a closed box girder cross section. Details are given of the structural analysis, construction process and costs. Details are given of the owner, designer, contractor and service date. |
