Benign goiter remains a major public health issue around the globe. Bilateral subtotal thyroidectomy for management of goiter is associated with a high recurrence rate. Total thyroidectomy has now become the preferred surgical approach for treatment of symptomatic goiter. Reoperative thyroid surgery for recurrent symptomatic goiter requires careful preparation and should incorporate neuromonitoring to help preserve vocal cord function. |
