Popis: Open reduction and fixation represent the treatment of choice for tibial plateau fractures, especially in complex cases. The aim of our work was to analyse the preliminary results we obtained with at open surgery. Forty-nine patients with complex tibial plateau fractures underwent surgery between January 1, 2003 and December 31, 2014. Patients were retrospectively examined and clinically evaluated according to the HSS classification. All fractures were classified according to the Schatzker classification system. The mean follow-up period was 4 years. In agreement with the HSS classification, we identified 10 fair, 23 good, and 8 excellent cases. We did not identify any postoperative complication. Based on the data available in the literature and on our preliminary results, the surgical technique may be considered a safe procedure; not all tibial plateau fractures, however, can be treated this way.
