Popis: Plant-based dietary polyphenols have received enormous recent attention because of mounting evidence regarding their pharmacological properties with activities against various free radical–mediated and other human diseases. The high potency and low cytotoxicity of such phytochemicals make them potentially viable alternatives to conventional therapeutics. However, their applications in vivo are frequently hindered, largely due to their poor water solubility. Encapsulation of such compounds in suitable nanodimensional drug carriers markedly increases their solubility, in vivo delivery, and overall bioavailability. This chapter presents perspectives highlighting recent progress in research on the inclusion of therapeutically potent flavonoids (which comprise the most important group of dietary polyphenols), in natural and chemically modified cyclodextrin nanovehicles. Recent findings in this area through explorations via different spectroscopic tools (encompassing UV-visible absorption, fluorescence, and induced circular dichroism), together with supporting molecular modeling studies, are highlighted.
