During the Autumn of 2021, Interchange Research conducted interviews with directors and other staff of the current 23 Wellcome Trust PhD programmes. All directors were invited to interview, and we were able to arrange interviews with directors of 18 programmes. These were mostly one-on-one interviews, but sometimes two or more directors participated and sometimes programme managers or administrators were brought in too. Interviews lasted one hour. The interviews were transcribed, and a thematic analysis was conducted in order to arrive at an overview of the main topics and themes, as well as some of the outlying topics and themes.
