Milk production, grain intake, body weight change, and the production and concentration of milk constituents were criteria to evaluate Starea (an intimate mixture of gelatinized starch and urea) as a protein supplement for lactating dairy cows. Cows fed grain rations supplemented with either soybean meal or Starea (23% crude protein) consumed more grain and produced more milk containing more protein than cows fed the same grain ration supplemented with urea. Starea was approximately equal to soybean meal as a protein supplement for lactating cows. |
