Popis: | Raman scattering from ortho-, meta- and para -phenetidines in solution and in surface adsorbed state on colloidal silver have been investigated. Comparison of the spectra in solution and in silver sol shows large enhancement of the Raman scattering from the molecules adsorbed on the silver surface. Correlation of Raman enhancement of the molecules with their Hammett σ parameters suggests that charge transfer (CT) between the metal and the molecule may have significant contribution to surface enhanced Raman spectra (SERS). Dependence of SERS intensity on the concentration of molecules in the silver sol suggests “first layer effect” and chemisorption of the molecules on silver surface. Molecular orientation on the silver surface is also discussed. |
