Popis: Induction of tumor regression by hyperthermia has been reported since the late 19th century (Coley, 1893, Warren, 1935, Crile, 1962, and Pettigrew, 1975). These reports have generated renewed interest in the application of hyperthermia to cancer therapy. There seems little doubt that hyperthermia can increase damage to malignant cells without inducing unacceptable damage to normal tissue. However, the mechanism by which hyperthermia achieves these results remains unknown. It is known that oxygen levels in tumor tissue differs from that in normal tissue (Puffer, et al., 1976, and Vaupel, 1977). This study was undertaken to demonstrate whether changes in oxygen level occured in experimental mammary tumors in C3H mice during hyperthermia.
