Cigarette smoking is a leading public health concern. Previous literature has indicated that there is a difference in risk taking behavior between people who smoke cigarettes and people who do not. Additionally, reducing risk taking behavior and attitudes towards risk could improve cessation outcomes by leading people to become less likely to smoke. The primary goal of this study is to determine whether Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) to the Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex (DLPFC) reduces risk taking behavior and attitudes in people who smoke cigarettes. First, we would like to determine if there is a reduction in risk taking within the areas of health, safety, and finance after rTMS treatment. Second, the study would also like to see whether rTMS treatment to the DLPFC leads to significant reduction in overall risk taking. Finally, we are interested in seeing if a reduction in risk taking leads to an improvement in cessation related factors. |
