Radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate in the presence of sulphuric acid

Popis: A study was made of the mechanism of MMA polymerization in the presence of 80 and 95.6% H2SO4 with a 1 : 1 molar ratio of [H2SO4]/[MMA]. The reaction was initiated by UV irradiation at 20°. It was found that the reaction can be described in terms of ordinary addition radical polymerization. The main kinetic effect in the studied systems is a reduction in rate of bimolecular termination.
