Physico-chemical analysis of mixtures of cellulose nitrate with triacetin and the thermodynamics of their mixing

Popis: Calorimetric data on the temperature dependence of the heat capacity of some mixtures of cellulose nitrate with triacetin (plasticizer) and the integral enthalpy of mixing have been used as a basis for calculating the entropy, enthalpy and Gibbs energy of mixing as functions of the cellulose nitrate/plasticizer ratio, and of temperature. The compatibility of the components was determined from the concentration dependence of change in the chemical potential of the plasticizer and from calorimetric determination of the amount of triacetin (as an individual phase) in mixtures.
