Presents some results of the TANGRAM project, which prototypes and evaluates an environment supporting the object-oriented development of distributed multimedia applications based on the architectures developed by the "Telecommunications Information Networking Architecture Consortium" (TINA-C). These architectures suggest how to structure software for information networking. Their strength is the applicability for a wide range of telecommunication services and the independence of system and network technology. To enforce the approach taken in TINA-C, the concepts of abstract object-oriented frameworks are introduced and applied. Such frameworks can be a means to support the design and development of software sharing the advantages of object-orientation like reusability, scalability and customizability. |
