Observations of interface failure during a single fibre-pull-out test have revealed propagation of a debond along the interface in a series of discrete stages. The phenomenon fits an energy criterion for interface failure and contrasts to the previously observed simultaneous yielding phenomenon. The distinction between the two types of failure appears to be in the interface bond strength; high bond strengths result in simultaneous yielding while low bond strengths allow the energy criterion to control failure of the interface bond. |
