Popis: | The relative infrequency of coronary heart disease (CHD) and thrombosis among Eskimos has raised the possibility that their unusual diet might be protective (1–5). Most Eskimos and Northwest Coast Indians traditionally derived the bulk of their food from the sea. Although some marine animals, fish, and shellfish do have a high cholesterol and fat content, their fat is unique in that it contains large quantities of long-chain, highly polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids (5). |
