Summary The geophysical survey was performed in the Transylvanian Depression, Romania, in an area where a rare type of mud volcanoes, in terms of the ejected gaseous emissions, is encountered. Despite this interesting phenomenon, there is a lack of geophysical data in the region and their deep structure is unknown. By means of ERT data, there were revealed 2 fault lineaments, one trending W-E and other trending SSW-NNE. Following the direction suggested by the ERT data, evidence for their extent was further investigated by analyzing the saline or brine water samples collected from the region and comparing the corresponding chemical facies with the one displayed by the Homorod mud volcanoes extruded liquid. It was therefore possible to better understand the regional trend of the SSW-NNE fault line. |
