Vibration tests on satellites generates huge amount of data of the order of tens of terra bytes per year. This data represents vibration levels at various locations of the satellite during the test. Data acquisition systems that are commonly used in the vibration test laboratories acquires and saves this huge amount of data in the proprietary file formats of the manufacturer. These data files are archived in the data server computer system. Presently, it is not practical to access this mammoth data over intranet for post processing of the data. Also, as the data file format of one acquisition systems is not compatible with that of the other system, data acquired and stored by a system from manufacturer-A cannot be post-processed in another system from manufacturer-B. Hence, the post-processing of vibration data encounters two challenges: archival and accessing huge amount of test data over intranet and post-processing of these incompatible data formats in any of the available system. In the present work, an efficient algorithm is designed to compress the satellite vibration test data and also a novel file format is proposed for archival of this compressed data. This facilitates the post-processing of huge amount of test data acquired and stored by another data acquisition system and makes the post processing of vibration test data quick and platform independent. |
