LnVO4:Eu3+ (Ln = Gd, Y, La) nanoparticles (NPs) of different sizes have been synthesized by citrate and citrate-free routes. NPs of both types reveal photobleaching, i.e. decrease in Eu3+ emission under UV-light irradiation. The efficiency of the photobleaching depends strongly on NPs size. Presented here experimental data show that the photobleaching effect is associated with a photo-reduction of Eu3+ ions to Eu2+ via the electron transfer reaction under UV-light irradiation and cannot be ascribed to V5+ to V4+ ion reduction assisted by citrate ions. The role of the NPs size in Eu3+ photobleaching is analyzed. |
