Popis: A major and important change in the assessment of gender dysphoria (i.e., being unhappy with one’s biological sex) occurred when the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) changed this diagnosis from gender identity disorder in DSM-IV-TR to the current diagnostic term, Gender Dysphoria. This chapter reviews studies of gender dysphoria and concludes that gender dysphoria is most likely a highly heritable trait, although heretofore unidentified environmental conditions may contribute to its expression. It is also concluded that the gender dysphoria is neither a rare nor a very rare condition.
