Popis: | The corrosion in a gas mixture containing 1 pct oxygen and 1 pct chlorine in argon has been investigated at 1000 K. The rate of corrosion is controlled by transport of CoCl/sub 2/(g) in the gas phase, with the effective vapor pressure of CoCl/sub 2/(g) at the gas-solid interface being controlled by the reaction between Co/sub 3/O/sub 4/(s) and the gas when the performed scale is more than 1.5 X 10/sup -3/ cm thick. When the scale is thin, the corrosion rate is higher and may approach the maximum theoretical rate for volatilization of solid CoCl/sub 2/(s). |
