Popis: | Acute pseudo-obstruction of the colon (Ogilvie’s syndrome) is a recognized complication following lower limb arthroplasty, pelvic and spinal surgery. If unrecognized it may result in massive colonic dilatation that may lead to life threatening perforation. An 84 year-old female patient experienced pseudo-obstruction following shoulder arthroplasty. She improved with non-operative treatment. To our knowledge this has not been described before. Therefore this potentially life-threatening complication should also be considered in upper limb surgery if the clinical picture suggests pseudo-obstruction. |
