Popis: | In recent years, we can observe an increasing interest of the society in non−wood forest products use. The fashion for ecological and natural products has resulted in the appearance of many forest products that were previously unknown, unused or niche. An example of such a product is sort of cheese produced in France, for the production of which spruce inner bark is used in the ripening process. It comes inter alia from Poland, from the region of the Western Beskidy Mountains. Little knowledge of how to obtain the spruce bark and the lack of previous studies in this area became the premise of this research. The aim of the study was to collect and develop information on the harvesting of Norway spruce inner bark in the Ujsoły Forest District (S Poland) and to analyse the working day structure of this process. Annually, from the area of the Ujsoły Forest District, from 1.2 to 2 million running meters of spruce inner bark is harvested. The efficiency of spruce inner bark harvest is strongly correlated with the diameter of the log from which the inner bark was harvested, but time spent on harvesting is poorly correlated with that feature. The main time of spruce inner bark harvesting oscillates around 80%, wherein the time of the spruce inner bark cutting states about 40−50% of the main time, and the time of debarking and transverse cutting states about 30−35%. Many biotic and abiotic factors which influence the efficiency of spruce inner bark harvesting have been noticed. This research should be expanded with the ergonomic aspect, which would allow for the improvement of the process and the definition of health and safety rules in inner bark harvesting process.
