Popis: | The phenomenon of the so called “fast quench” observed for some AC superconducting cables is very promising for such applications as fault current limiters, power switches, magnet energy storage etc. The investigations of fast quenches showed empirically that the phenomenon appears because of the acceleration of a normal zone velocity in each strand of a cable during quench development. In the present work the acceleration of a quench was directly measured for a case when the last was stimulated by fast current rising. These experiments simulated the situation during a quench in AC cables with insulated strands. It was found that a quench velocity is dependent on a current rising rate. The dependence of the quench velocity on start current and external magnetic field was also studied. These results may be used for calculations of the fast quench in real devices. |
