Calculation of the double discharge in xenon lamps used for pumping neodymium lasers

Popis: This paper reports on results of experimental investigationsfrom which the double-discharge circuit and its electric and radiation characteristics can be calculated for neodymium laser pumping. A circuit is illustrated which generates a double discharge. Time-dependent characteristics of both the current and the radiation pulses of the double discharge are shown. Formulas are presented which enable the circuit to be calculated. The radiation pulse was recorded in the direction of the diameter of the discharge channel in the wavelength range 500-1000 nm which coincides with a large part of the absorption spectrum of the glass activated with neodymium. The results of the investigations allow the determination of the shape of the current pulse and of the exiting power pulse of the upper level of a neodymium glass laser directly from the initial conditions of the double discharge. The results can be used to solve the inverse problem in order to optimize the parameters of a pumping system.
