A computationally efficient approximate aeroelastic model suitable for control studies is developed. The structural model accounts for geometrically nonlinear behavior using an implicit condensation technique. The aerodynamic loads are calculated using a quasi-static model that is fit using data obtained from an unsteady discrete vortex approach. The aeroelastic model and its ingredients are compared to experiments and computations using models of higher fidelity, and show acceptable agreement. The model is subsequently employed in a control study with an objective to hover at a fixed altitude using one degree of freedom. Preliminary results suggest that modeling techniques widely used in control studies significantly underpredict the required actuation. |
