The paper represents a new concept of thermal infrared sensor array based on the micro(nano)-electromechanical system (MNEMS) with non-stationary Seebeck effect. The application of Seebeck effect readout method in the sensing element using the “switchable” thermocouple is analyzed. The main characteristics of such a sensitive element for an IR imager array and their interrelation are discussed, i. e., the size of the element? that determines the imager spatial resolution; the frame time that specifies its response; the relaxation time and the output thermo-power of the thermopile. An increase of the input signal of the preamplifier can be achieved in that way which removes the stiff requirements for its noise figure and, ultimately, increases the sensitivity of an IR imager. |
