Capture of negative K-mesons in diamond-loaded emulsions.—II

Popis: Nuclear emulsions loaded with small diamond crystals were exposed to a stopping beam of K−-mesons. A total of 43 K−-capture events in carbon were found. Comparisons were made between the K− absorptions in carbon and normal G-5 emulsion. The results showed that charged Σπ-pair production is depressed in carbon. In addition, an excess of Σ− to Σ+ hyperons was observed. If carbon is representative of light emulsion nuclei, then the conventional techniques used for separating events into capture by light and heavy nuclei are shown to be inadequate.
