Arbitration systems provided quick, private, and final determinations in an efficient manner that avoided “the strict course and tedious ceremonies of Law Suits.” Julius Henry Cohen spoke these words in his 1918 book, Commercial Arbitration and the Law. At that time, Cohen already saw the power of self-contained systems for resolving disputes.
