Popis: Risk assessments of the potential health effects from chemical exposures have been used as the basis for many U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and activities. In order to provide for consistent interpretation and use of the available scientific data to perform risk assessments, the EPA has taken several actions. These include the development of risk assessment guidelines; the establishment of two Agency-wide review groups, the Reference Dose (RfD) and Carcinogen Risk Assessment Verification Endeavor (CRAVE) Work Groups; and the development of the Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS). Two uses of this guidance and information are illustrated: the development of a drinking water standard and the evaluation of the human health hazard from a hazardous waste site.
