Fission fragments mass-kinetic energy correlations have been investigated for uranium-235 thermal fission. Pronounced shifts of mass components were observed and then used for extraction of prescission neutrons multiplicities νPRE. It was shown that those neutrons are emitted from fission modes corresponding to the asymmetric mass splits far from double magic mode. Fragment mass and kinetic energy dependence of νPRE indicated different nuclear viscosity of fissile system on whole stage of system’s descent from saddle point to scission one. As a result, fission time depends on mass split and it is determined by first third part of the descent. Reduced viscosity coefficient β for cold fissioning nucleus is much higher than for hot nucleus. |
